A spinal cord stimulator sends electrical impulses along a nerve’s pathway, overriding the pain signals sent to the brain. These impulses, generated from a small device implanted under the skin, similar in size to a pacemaker, interrupt the pain signals and thus provide pain relief. While it does not cure the source of the pain, a spinal cord stimulator can provide sufficient disruption to the pain signal to enable a patient to resume normal daily activities in comfort.
