A single nerve or group of nerves may cause pain due to trauma, illness or medication. Nerve block therapy injects the area of the nerve with anesthetic and/or corticosteroid medication providing pain relief to the tissues within the nerve’s distribution area. Dampening the nerve’s pain signal allows the nerve to heal and the patient to participate in rehabilitation activities. Nerve blocks may provide the physician with further diagnostic information and pinpoint the source of the pain.
